D-Day tour 1.5 days

Want to avoid PARIS?

If you want to see all the D-Day Landing beaches:
Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, Sword
It’s better to do it in 2 full days,
but if you only have a day and a half it can also be done
The focus will be only on the highlights and quite dense.

For a one 1.5 day(s) tour:

You’ll have to take Brittany Ferries from Portsmouth
(departing at 9.00 am) to Cherbourg (arriving at 1.00 pm)
as it brings you close to where it all started.
From April 20th, you have a fast-craft ferry
taking just 3 hours with departures every day !
I’ll be waiting for you inside the ferry terminal
with my name on a clip board “Trevor Standefer”

On the half day this is what we will see :

Sainte-Mère Eglise

First village liberated by US Airborne forces.
Hear about the story of  the paratrooper who got caught on the church steeple

Hedgerow stop

Explanation of how the hedgerows were at the time of the landings

Utah beach

Understand the construction of the Altlantic Wall’s bunkers and
why it was a successful landing in part due to Brigadier General Theodore Roosevelt Jr.

Pointe du Hoc

D-DAY’s most dangerous mission where U.S. Rangers scaled 100 ft. high cliffs

Then I will drop you off at your accommodation
see my list of suggestions on where to stay:

The following full day we will see :

Walk on this emotional beach where so many
brave soldiers gave their lives,

(3600 casualties in the first 3 hours)

and objectif of the 6th Airbone Divison

We will finish  the tour in front of the Big Bunker
(now a 7 story museum)

right next to the ferry terminal to get back to England.

We’ll be done around 6 pm and that’ll give you plenty of time
to visit museum and have a light snack
or settle down and have  dinner
just across from the ferry terminal….

Your ferry leaves Ouistreham (Caen)  at 11.00 pm and arrives the next day
in Portsmouth at 6.45 am (- 1 hour for UK time)
