Re-enactment of June 23rd’s 1944  Silver Star ceremony.

In Carentan the will be a concert after the Liberty March,
it will be taking place at the “Place de la République”

Starts at 4 pm
4 pm : Exodus re-enactment come and take part of this event and dress in 1940’s civilian clothes
with accessories and vehicles (hat, handbag, suitcase, bicycle…)

Did you know that on December 24th 1944 …

The Belgian troopship Léopoldville was sunk by German submarine U-486 in the English Channel off Cherbourg.

Approximately 763 American soldiers and 56 crew were killed

The survivors were sworn to secrecy not to talk about the incident
(as they could face court-martial and end up getting shot)

until the end of the war, as they thought it would bring bad moral to the war effort
